  • Valles Caldera National Preserve - Was created over 1.4 million years ago. This is one of the largest calderas in the world. (14 miles across)

  • Jemez State Monument - Exhibits ruins from the 1300 A.D. Towa Pueblo of Guisewa (place of the boiling water) and 17th century Spanish Mission of San Jose de los Jemez.
  • Battleship Rock - This is a sheer cliff that rises above the river like a pointed battleship prow.
  • Soda Dam - A geological phenomenon, is a natural hot spring deposit of treating rock that formed over thousands of years from carbonated waters issuing from a fault zone.
  • Gilman Tunnels - These are two impressive old railroad tunnels that were blasted out of solid rock in the 1800's for logging trains to bring timber down from the high country. The Guadalupe River thunders through this majestic gorge.
  • Jemez Pueblo - This is a single puebloan village of Walatown in which 3000+ tribal members reside. Occupied since the 16th century, it is the last remaining pueblo to speak of the Towa dialect. Many of its artists are world-renowned and offer something for all collectors. The visitor center (505) 834-7735 offers interpretive tours that can include dance performances, artist demonstrations and traditional feast.
  • Zia Pueblo - This is perhaps best known for its ancient sun symbol, hailed as an emblem of friendship. Potters from this Keresan Village have a well-deserved reputation for excellence and are known for the red-on-white pottery. Some of Zia's painters are nationally recognized for their watercolors and oils. Zia's Cultural Center (505) 867-3304 serves as and outlet for tribally produced arts and crafts.
